Challenge & Solution

AmyletiX is a new way to incorporate insoluble materials in water-based systems. It uses Guest/Host chemistry to disperse insoluble materials, not emulsify them. The helical host captures and hides insoluble guests in water. It lets you incorporate difficult active molecules in water-based systems, such as hydrophobic actives and oils. Topical ointments with a water base and hydrophobic actives are far more stable than emulsions of the same ingredients. Makes a molecular dispersion rather than an emulsion for greater stability. Better bioavailability and skin penetration.

AmyletiX Technology is a new approach to making water-based and oil-in-water emulsions. It is a technology that uses guest/host chemistry to disperse insoluble materials. In the world of cosmetics and personal care products, there are two main challenges:

  1. Difficult active ingredients or molecules, for example,  retinoids that are not soluble in water.
  2. Insoluble actives that cannot be incorporated into a water-based system due to their lack of solubility in oil or other non-aqueous phases.

Our AmyletiX and AmphyletiX Technology solve both problems at once by using the unique chemistry of our hydrophilic and/or amphiphilic host molecule — one that is both lipophilic (oil loving) and hydrophilic (water-attracting). This combination allows us to encapsulate insoluble ingredients into a stable, self-assembled host structure that is resistant to aggregation and precipitation in aqueous solutions. The result is an emulsion-free molecular dispersion rather than an emulsion — with all its attendant stability problems.

AmyletiX Technology is a solution for the problems of molecular dispersion, hydrophobic actives and skin penetration.

AmyletiX uses guest/host chemistry to disperse insoluble materials in water. The helical host captures and hides insoluble guests in water. This results in a molecular dispersion rather than an emulsion for greater stability.

Opportunity

Salicylic acid, an important specialty ingredient in some cosmetic treatments, is very hydrophobic, but with AmyletiX, Salicylic acid may be added to the water phase changing the dynamics of the product possibilities.
02

Opportunity

Resveratrol may be carried in the water phase of a lotion.
03

Opportunity

Coenzyme Q10 and vitamin E may be introduced in the water phase, along with vitamin C to maintain activity, enhancing skin penetration and potency. (Accompanying vitamin E and vitamin C are needed to activate coenzyme Q10 to its active state.)
